The invrntion disclosed in this application relates to a composition in the form of a gel which is useful for the treatment of periodontal disease, which comprises: (a) a water-insoluble biodegradable polymer (b) a biocompatible, organic solvent ( c) an active agent (drug) and (d) a co-solvent capable of solubilizing the axctive agent (drug) . The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of the above mentioned composition.
