: OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTOR
Application IN/PCT/2002/00046-A published 2006-03-24, filed 2002-01-11
Requirements for the connection of optical fibers include that two optical paths (cores) connected to each other are aligned with the central axis, the connection space is extremely small, and the holding mechanism thereof does not permit entrance of a foreign matter, e.g. dust, vapor or moisture. Both ferule holders (2) holding two optical fibers (21) joined oppositely to each other through an adapter (B) are turned simultaneously by means of a rotating outer wheel (4) in order to correct the shift from the central axis, and that position is held by interlocking a rotation stop portion (33) on the shaft of the ferule holder (2) with a resilient rotation stop plate (13) disposed in the adapter (B). A connecting space (32) is filled with low cross link density silicone gel (41) having a refractive index equivalent to that of the optical fiber (21), and the connecting space (32) is contracted close to the limit. The function of the low crosslink density silicone gel (41) can be adapted to any external environmental variation, and the light transmitting function is prevented from deteriorating by holding the joint of the optical fiber (21).
