A composition useful for removal of fibrin-bound blood clots from a catheter comprises water, a fibrinolytically effective amount of a plasminogen activator, and a preservatively effective amount of a bacteriostatic organic alcohol. The composition does not comprise a chelating agent. (FIG1).
